Just in the past couple weeks, Nicholas Megalis has been singled out by Cleveland Free Times and Alternative Press as an artist to watch out for in 2007. I don’t want to be left out of the praise party, especially when a talent like this is operating out of my hometown scene.
As far back as last winter, local musicians were tipping me that the young Nicholas Megalis was one of the most talented performers in Cleveland. I remember distinctly when I sat down to interview Boatzz, Nicholas Megalis was one of the first names they mentioned when we discussed some of the best rockers that Cleveland had to offer. A few weeks later, I caught Nicholas during a show at the Beachland Tavern and couldn’t believe that this young man, who so passionately pounded down that piano, was still a teenager.
Nicholas Megalis can do a mean Marc Bolan. He can also do a fine Jack White. However, Nicholas Megalis is at his best when he’s being Nicholas Megalis, the reincarnation of rock and roll. Check out that bombastic piano playing and scorching vocal delivery on “Not The Kind Of Boy” and you’ll see what I mean.
