With the news that Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five will be joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with fellow inductees, REM, Patti Smith, Van Halen, and The Ronettes, it’s a perfect time to take a break from your busy day and revel in the fantastic six minute video for “The Message.”
Not only were Grandmaster Flash one of the true pioneers of rap, but they were also on the cutting edge of music video. Ok, maybe they weren’t on the cutting edge of video in 1982. While the urban jungle scene of “The Message” helped introduce stark realism into rap music, that mis-timed car screech at the 5:30 mark still makes for some great unintentional comedy.
Not mentioned in the press release is whom, exactly, will be inducted with Van Halen. Will it be David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, and/or Gary Cherone?
