Contrary to popular belief, not every band is down in Texas this weekend for SXSW. Sure, there’s a whole helluva lot of music going on down there, but there are still ample opportunities to rock it in Cleveland this coming week.

This Friday night The Black Diamonds, Mr Gnome, and Record Low rock the Beachland Ballroom while on the west side, another IRC favorite, The Dr Teeeth headline a free show at the Hi-Fi in Lakewood. You know how I like my rock and roll, and both The Black Diamonds and The Dr Teeeth rock f’n hard. Choose wisely rockers.

Saturday is St Patrick’s Day, and assuming you’re still sober around 9, there’s a great bill at The Ballroom: Ratatat , Despot (Def Jux), Professor Murder, Muamin Collective. That same night, at The Lime Spider in Akron, Houseguest headline the show with Celebrity Pilots and JJ Magazine.

While we’re talking about Ratatat, it would be so wrong of me not to share their latest remix: Biggie Smalls – Party & Bullshit (Ratatat remix) [download]. This is what you’ll miss if you’re passed out by 9.

Though they’re not my cup of tea, I know a lot of you will be stoked for Of Montreal and Loney, Dear at The Beachland on Monday night. Also at The Beachland next week will be shows by Boatzz on Tuesday (tavern), Menomena, Field Music, and Land of Talk in the Ballroom on Wednesday, Holly Golightly in the Tavern on Wednesday, and Australian rockers, You Am I, Thursday in the tavern with The Revelers. Just in case you need a reminder, You Am I just happened to release one of the top rock records so far in 07.

Two more shows of note. Wednesday at The Lime Spider in Akron there’s Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers and The Whiskey Daredevils and Thursday at The Grog, Matador Records singer songwriter, Jennifer O’Connor tops the bill with the The Dreadful Yawns.
