Friday May, 11th through Thursday, May 17th
Here’s your weekly rundown of I Rock Cleveland approved live shows for the coming week.
Friday night Detroit’s dance punk, garage rock madmen Electric Six headline the Grog Shop…Saturday night, there’s two quality shows, so choose wisely: At the Grog Shop there’s Daniel Johnston, Beaten Awake, and The Muttering Retreats, and word around town is that Beaten Awake will be performing a few songs with Daniel Johnston during his set. Then, at The Beachland Tavern Cleveland/Detroit pop rock band, Kiddo have their record release show with Machine Go Boom and Houseguest handling the opening duties.
There’s also a busy calendar Sunday night: The Hold Steady, Heartless Bastards, and The Ratchets at The Beachland Ballroom, Pretty Girls Make Graves will be playing the Grog Shop as part of their farewell tour, and Clutch, The Bell Rays and personal favs Backyard Tire Fire play the House of Blues Cleveland.
Lastly, I have a few recommendations for the work week. Next Monday, The House of Blues hosts a massive night of rock with Mastodon, Against Me!, Cursive, and These Arms are Snakes…Richard Lloyd of the classic punk band Television, is playing The Beachland Tavern with his new outfit, The Sufi Monkeys, on Wednesday night. Short Rabbits, a band featuring members of This Moment in Black History and Easter Monkeys, will be opening. Finally, The Tragically Hip return to town for another rock show Wednesday at The House of Blues. If you’re hip to The Hip, get your tix in advance. The last date sold out.
Mark It Down
