I am more than stoked for The Walkmen, Black Mountain, and The Dreadful Yawns at the Grog Shop on Saturday night. Not only is this a stacked bill with three solid bands, but all three bands will be showcasing new tuneage: The Walkmen spent the better part of September recording their next record, Black Mountain’s next release, In the Future is due out next January, and they’ll have a special tour only 12″ for sale at the show, and Cleveland’s Dreadful Yawns have also been working on a new record. Even October baseball can’t keep me away from this one.

October baseball may keep people away from the Beachland Tavern on Friday night, and if it does, it will be a real shame. Music Saves is sponsoring a show with Slaraffenland, from Denmark, Phosphorescent, Soft Spots, and Peter and the Wolf. Slaraffenland released an excellent album earlier this year on Hometapes, Private Cinema, that lies somewhere in that unclassifiable land between Icelandic post-rock and Scandanavian indie pop. Additionally, Phosphorescent’s Pride, is one of those albums that a lot of people will be talking about in the coming weeks as its slated for release in two weeks on Dead Oceans, and, quite honestly, it’s some damn fine space age folk.
