Record Store Day

Although the first National Record Store Day won’t happen until Saturday, it has already overtaken Festivus as my second favorite made up holiday. National Talk Like a Pirate Day, still being the best made up holiday, of course. To celebrate, Music Saves in Cleveland will be offering prizes, freebies, surprises and exclusive releases by the likes of The Black Keys, The Breeders, Stephen Malkmus, Death Cab for Cutie, and Built to Spill. And there’s more: a coloring contest, an art opening, and a free concert outside the store with Bears, Marie Corbo, and Helper T Cells. Sounds fantastic, right? Well, if you head down to Waterloo on this Saturday night, not only can you celebrate Record Store Day, but the whole street will be alive. There will also be art openings at Arts in Collinwood and Vision Gallery, an open house at the new home of Exit Stencil Recordings and Studio, a scavenger hunt organized by Shoparooni, and a great night of local music at The Beachland Tavern with Hot Cha Cha, To Be a High Powered Executive, Unsparing Sea, and Black Canary. Should the rain stay away, the Indians play like the Indians who don’t suck, and the Cavs play like the Cavs who don’t suck, it could be the perfect Saturday.
