Pink Reason always seemed like a bit of an anomaly when grouped with the other shit-pop bands from Columbus, Ohio. While Kevin DeBroux coaxed out creeky, damaged folk tunes on his 2007 Siltbreeze release, Cleaning the Mirror, Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit were ripping it up with tinny, trebly, and distorted pop gems. All that changes with Pink Reason’s latest release, the 7″ single “Borrowed Time.” It contains all the pleasures of shit-pop — harsh lo-fi production, hidden melody, and a world be damned attitude in little more than one minute.
