While much of Spiritualized’s latest cd, Songs in A & E, can be described as quiet, reserved, and introspective, Jason Pierce, aka J Spaceman, and band are still more than capable of whipping up a massive, all encompassing sound. The interstellar blues of “You Lie You Cheat,” and it’s whirling, swirling, disorienting sonics, is the type of song that made Spaceman’s second career as the leader of Spiritualized. Fittingly, the accompanying video is disorienting as well. Shot in first person, as if it was done by unshaky hands of a man on the run, the viewer experiences first hand the panic and desperation of the subject, as they join him on one leap of faith after another.
