I’ve been listening to so much Southern Lord style metal of late that when the opening chords of the Young Widow’s “Old Skin” hit with such soul shaking force, I fully expect a nine, ten, twenty minute drone of evil to follow. Instead, that hearty rumble is a precursor to one minute of ragged, pulsating guitars, and more china cabinet rattling force from the rhythm section, proving there’s more than one way to get heavy these days.
