It’s occurred to me that some of you may not understand why I’m so stoked to get my hands on Prisonshake’s new album and similarly stoked to see them live at the Grog on September 20th. So, let’s take a trip to the vaults:

Prisonshake come from a different era, a time when selling out was akin to being a Holocaust denier. Now, it’s no big thing to shill for a car company. Hey, a band’s gotta get paid some way. However, for the Shake, their strict ethics meant self-releasing albums on their own label, Scat Records, and no videos, or anything that would take away from the music. Hence, the clip above is a fan video made years after Prisonshake’s last album, Roaring Third, came out in ’93.

While I’m not a big fan of this particular fan treatment, the song, “2 Sisters” is one I can’t stop jamming. This one is loaded with blazing guitar riffs, and f*ck all attitude. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear that J. Mascis was brought in to be a designated shredder, but no, the shredding is all done by the Shake’s Robert Griffin. And just when you think this song can’t get any better, Doug Enkler delivers the killer line, “Let’s drink a toast to the girl on the hill/They say she won’t, but her sister will/So, here’s to your sister.” Rock ‘N’ F’N Roll.
