Say Hi’s “November Was White, December Was Grey,” is built around a simple sentiment, one which is shared by just about everyone in the Midwest, and anyone living north of the Mason-Dixon line, for that matter, “I’ll feel better when the winter is gone.” Fittingly, it opens with Eric Elbogen’s voice cloaked in reverb, his barren electric guitar, and some pained, longing back up vocals. Make no mistake about it, being secluded in the cold for months is no fun. Gradually, drums kick in, and there’s some keys, and as the track builds there’s optimism, restrained and slightly shaky, but optimism nonetheless.
