The makeover of the Arctic Monkeys, from snotty youth to serious musicians, continues with this live video of the band covering Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ “Red Right Hand,” during their recent web transmission. Here Cave’s loungy, mysticism gets a shot of adrenaline, thanks to a perked up tempo and a savage, rumbling guitar riff. Surprisingly, the Monkey’s Alex Turner seems almost natural delivering Cave’s line, “He’s a god, he’s a man, he’s a ghost, he’s a guru.” Maybe all that time spent in the desert with Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme has made a difference in the lives of these Sheffield youths. Or, maybe we, the American listening public, never gave this band their just due. Either way, they absolutely nailed this one.
