One can think of the Chicago-based rock band, Pelican, like Mogwai, but only the crescendos, or Isis, without the screaming. Either way, their brand of instrumental metal, or instru-metal, for those who need an awkwardly named sub-genre to obsessively organize their iTunes library, is as punishing as much as it is inspiring. “Strung Up From the Sky,” being no exception, features dual guitarists Trevor de Brauw and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec maneuvering between sunshine and sludge, the delicate and the damning, in a five minute death match between the forces of good and evil.
