If you’re asking yourself why Gowns, this three-piece noise-folk band from California, is getting all this notice upon their dissolution, then you obviously haven’t been listening.

Erika Anderson, Ezra Buchla, and Corey Fogel took noise, folk, and spoken word poetry to places not even the freak-folk would roam.  Places where ambient tones met crass, cracked fragments of sound; where crashing cymbals and pulsating waves of sound signaled not the end, but only the beginning of one long, wide-eyed, multi-hued journey to intense, unsettling, and mythical places.  And it’s all there on the 17 minute “Stand and Encounter,” the final, and perhaps the best, song released by Gowns.
