Is it 2010 or 1997?  Last week people were lined up outside their favorite record stores in order to get their hands (And ears) on exclusive Record Store Day releases.  Next Thursday, people will be gathering at the Happy Dog in Cleveland to attend a listening party for The New Pornographer’s forthcoming album, Together. Not that any of this is a bad thing, mind you.  Music being social in the real world outside of social networking sites is a very, very positive development.  Ask any thirty-something like myself about what it was like in the old days, and they’ll surely have stories about midnight sales, staying up late with friends doing nothing more than listening to albums, and all of the tough decisions we had to make, like, “Do I spend my last $20 on beer or on new releases?”  Those were good days.  Thursday’s looking like it’ll be a good day, too.
