While I stick by many of my original criticisms of Dum Dum Girls’ debut album, i.e., it would be nice if they had more than one tempo, it would be nice if the drummer knew more than one beat, there’s nothing to be cynical about concerning their single, “Bhang Bhang I’m a Burnout.” Look at that video, it even makes the women too cool to normally dance, dance, and almost enjoy it. And why not? It’s two and-a-half minutes of sugary sweet, bopping pop, hearkening back to classic garage rock, ’90s alt-rock, and fun. Yes, the one thing that makes “Bhang Bhang I’m a Burnout,” such a killer single is fun. From the light, uplifting vocals and non-sensical chorus, to that galloping drum beat, and the arching and screeching guitar bridge, it’s all fun all the time.
