Like Cass McCombs before them, San Francisco pop-outfit Girls failed to find much traction with the early festival crowd on Sunday afternoon. Not that there’s anything wrong with their dreamy-eyed jangle-pop of “Lust for Life,” “Ghostmouth,” and “Laura.” It was simply a case of wrong day and wrong stage. To their credit, Girls did kick it a bit when they added some more bump to the drums and a piercing screech to their single, “Hellhole Ratrace,” but when the noise abated after the following song, it was back to the weepy stuff. Something about pacing…Something about making people take notice…Ah, it was fun while it lasted.
