Like the 7″ singles, “Younger Us,” and “Art Czars” released before it, “Heavenward Grand Prix” ditches with any sense of surprise or innovation and finds the Vancouver guitar-rock duo, Japandroids, focusing instead on immediacy. These songs are about volume, not contemplation. The words are meant to be shouted, not studied. These songs are about being young and rockin’ out and not caring about much else, and sometimes, that’s all a song needs to succeed.
