Listening to the debut track by Jonny, a new collaboration between Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake and Euros Childs of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, it’s difficult to discern any difference between “Candy Floss” and any other song Blake has written for his other band. That’s not a bad thing, mind you. Blake has spent the past 20 years perfecting the guitar pop song with Teenage Fanclub and for him to go off and record a leftfield album would be a disservice to us all. Light guitars, bright melodies, and spot-on harmonies (And a big helping of cotton candy) are the order of the day, here, and when done this well, one can’t help but want more of that sweet, sweet stuff.
