Short, sweet, loud and to the point, “So Far Away,” the first song released from A Place to Bury Strangers’ forthcoming EP for Dead Oceans isn’t revealing and doesn’t necessarily expand upon what we already know about the New York noisemakers. Rather, it reenforces the trio’s strengths — Working measurable volume and obscure textures into a post-punk framework. As in their earlier releases, the guitars are once again the stars with those custom pedals producing industrial inspired sounds of gnashing plates and grating gears. And while tweaks to the format would have been nice (Yes, we know you can do loud, we’ve got two albums of loud. Now, let’s push things a bit, boys) “So Far Away,” is a successful reintroduction for an act who haven’t released an album of new material since 2009’s Exploding Head.
