On the same day it was announced Greg Dulli would be reuniting his band The Afghan Whigs for shows at All Tomorrow’s Parties in London and New Jersey in 2012, Guided by Voices have announced they’ve broken up again. It was fun while it lasted, wasn’t it? Before, what we’ll call the inevitable dissolution of the “Classic” Guided by Voices lineup, we got one really long tour, one new album with a scheduled release date, another that’s all but done, and a third that may or may not ever see the light of day. And things had been going so well. You win some, you lose some, I guess.
UPDATE:
There’s been some clarification from Guided by Voices. While multiple outlets quoted a release by All Tomorrow’s Parties which had indicated that the band had split up, that’s not the case. From the band’s Facebook page:
Guided by Voices have not split up and continue to work on new material together. In addition to the album release of Let’s Go Eat the Factory for January, the band are at work on another album, Class Clown Spots A UFO, which will be released in May. Robert Pollard will also be releasing a solo album, Mouseman Cloud in March.
