Is there anyone in 2012 making better power pop records than Kyle Thomas and King Tuff? Following his Sub Pop debut, a self titled affair which featured the heart of a slacker and the musical command of a seasoned pro, Thomas now has a new 7″ on the way. And if you found yourself smitten with his brand of glam, garage, and sunshine pop like I was, you’ll want to get your hands on “Screaming Skull,” too. It’s another twisted gem, maybe even a love song, if longing over a screaming skull could be construed a sign of true love. Sure, others may yearn for a heart, a touch, or a kiss, but as long as the melodies stay sweet and the choruses ring true, he can sing of screaming skulls, yapping belly buttons, or crooked toes. The subject matter hardly matters.
