1. Sonic Youth – The Diamond Sea
2. Kurt Vile – Waking on a Pretty Day
3. Mary Lou Lord – Speeding Motorcycle
It was at this point I went from dj to turntable repair technician. The right turntable skipped on every record I tried to play. With a playlist queued to play on my phone, I adjusted the counterweight, the anti-skip, and the platform height. I switched out needles. None of my adjustments made a damn bit of difference. Finally, after analyzing the working turntable for a few minutes, I came to realize the tone arm on the right turntable was so tight that it couldn’t stick to a groove. Baby screwdriver for the win.
4. The La’s – There She Goes
5. The Beach Boys – God Only Knows
6. The Kinks – The Village Green Preservation Society
7. Credence Clearwater Revival – Lodi
8. Rolling Stones – Far Away Eyes
A wiser man than me said, should your dj set ever go bad, put on some Stones. No matter the rock crowd, old/young, hip/square, people will appreciate a Stones classic. I had two working turntables by now, but the Stones rule still applied. This is where I got my groove back. Also note, the Stones rule does not apply when you’re playing to the glow stick crowd.
9. Wilco – Misunderstood
10. Neil Young and Crazy Horse – Over and Over
11. Wooden Shjips – Shrinking Moon for You
12. Yo La Tengo – Ohm
13. Black Realm – Cleaning Up My Mess
The surprise hit of the day. Five separate folk came up and asked who this was. Blank Realm.
14. The Clash – This is Radio Clash
15. Malcolm McLaren – Buffalo Gals
16. PJ Harvey – 50 ft. Queenie
17. Jesus Lizard – Nub
18. Constantines – Nightime/Anytime (It’s Alright)
19. White Stripes – Hello Operator
20. Obnox – Hang On Sloopy
For the record, I had planned on playing some Obnox before Obnox (Lamont “Bim” Thomas) sat down at the bar for brunch.
21. OBN IIIs – If The Shit Fits
22. The Men – Shittin’ With the Shah
23. Oblivians – Live the Life

40. King Tuff – Screaming Skull
41. Wild Flag – Future Crimes
42. Presidents of the United States of America – Peaches
43. Presidents of the United States of America – Video Killed the Radio Star
The feel good hit of the day. I had no idea anyone but me would dig POTUSA in 2013, let alone want to hear more than one track by POTUSA. But when a member of the wait staff came over and saw that the B-side of “Peaches” was a cover of this MTV classic, and asked for the B-side, too, I couldn’t refuse.
44. Jesus and Mary Chain – Kill Surf City
45. The Wipers – Youth of America
46. Mission of Burma – Trem Two
47. Spaceman 3 – Transparent Radiation
