In the Red Records
You know that old saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover?” It doesn’t really apply to rock records.
For their In the Red Records debut, LA thrashers, Zig Zags have chosen a plain gray cover with the band name rendered in a font we’ll call 90’s burn out spiral notebook. If you’re a member of Gen X, or even Gen Y, you recognize this font from high school English class. The longhair sitting next to you filled his notebook with the stylized names of Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath in this very same font as you were taking notes on Poe, Lord Byron and Thoreau.
What else is there to say? Zig Zags honor their heroes in garage quality recordings. Dudes like getting stoned and motorcycles. There’s some quality riffs. The truth is you already made a judgement call on this record and your first instinct was right.
