As the old saying goes, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mellow and a time to get stoked.” Now, as we have another preview track from Toronto punks, Metz, is the time to get stoked, and rip, and shred.
Maybe it’s the vintage Unsane record staring at me from my desk, but the industrial strength racket heard on “Spit You Out,” bares more than a passing resemblance to the work of the influential NYC post-hardcore band. This thing is dense and jarring, and like the best of Unsane’s work, has a pop melody dying to get out. It simply got mangled on the way to the recording studio.Metz will be in with Lightning Bolt for a show at the Beachland Ballroom on April 17th. That new album of theirs will be out May 4th on Sub Pop Records. Photo credit: David Waldman.
