Jam On It! New Jams by Summer Cannibals, The Julie Ruin, OBN IIIS, Metz and Swami John Reis, and GOAT
If Sleater-Kinney were the female Fugazi and Summer Canniabls are the new Sleater-Kinney, that would make Summer Canniabls the new female Fugazi with one dude? I don't know man, but what I do know, is that there isn't enough metal in punk today, not enough musicians ready to plug in and aim for the arena rafters.

New Jam City: New Jams by Savages, Pop. 1280, Metz, So Pitted and Spacin’
While it was never my intention to take such a long break at the end of the year, it happened. I had this broken arm from a gnarly cycling crash in November. Hey, at least I ended up sprawled across a driveway and not splattered on the street! Prior to the bike crash I had a painful arse condition. We won't talk about the arse condition except to say it wasn't the most common of painful arse conditions and it hurt like hell.
Now, after five weeks in a cast I can type sometimes and not feel pain. My arse doesn't hurt every day. Things are looking up! Best of all, I'm slowly regaining my love of music. You see, when you feel pain every day every other sense is dulled. I listened to the new Sunn 0))) album but it might as well been the Starland Vocal Band. Get it? Now let's get to the jams.

The Rockometer: II by Metz
Now, listening to a Metz LP isn't the same as being at a Metz concert. The record doesn't come packaged with a vial of sweat from guitarist/vocalist Alex Edkins. You don't get to see him transform from everyman to raging man. And, there's no threat of taking a boot to the head from the crowd surfer elevated center stage. For real, in the year 2015, people crowd surf at a Metz show. Maybe not at your fancy pants clubs in New York and LA, but here in Cleveland kids can still get a lift to the top of the throbbing masses.
But, after the first three tracks by these Toronto punks on the simply titled, II, you can get pretty damn close to the experience of being there.

Play Me: “Spit You Out” by Metz
As the old saying goes, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mellow and a time to get stoked."

This One Rips: “Acetate” by Metz
If you're at all familiar with the Toronto trio, Metz's debut, then you should have a good handle on what to expect when you click on that new track, "Acetate," below, from the band's new Sub Pop release, II, due out on May 5th, but, sweet baby Jesus, does this jam rip. It's like everyone in the band changed their name to Ripper and took their new names to heart by ripping up everything in sight: the joint; guitar, bass, and drums, punk; noise and post-hardcore.
